SPS Power Skating Staff
SPS only hires professional coaches. That means our coaches have a university degree in physical education, kinesiology or human kinetics. Our assistant coaches, at a minimum, are students in those programmes. Why is this so important to us? SPS Professional Coaches need to know the biomechanics of skating skills, and the motor learning and skill acquisition theory to guide players along the path to skill improvement. When it comes to Dryland training, they need to understand exercise physiology in order to help players achieve the fitness they need to be better skaters. On top of that, a coach has to be able to work with players of all ages and skill levels. We look for people with a combination of coaching experience and education. As far as we know, none of our competitors have such stringent hiring policies.
